I had a fabulous time introducing styrofoam printing to the enthusiastic participants at Merthyr College's Safeguarding conference. It was wonderful to see them able to communicate visually what they had learnt.

The young people used simple symbols to address crucial questions such as "What is Safeguarding?", "What are the signs somebody is at risk?" and "Who can I turn to?"

First they etched their design onto styrafoam, before using a roller to apply ink and then facing the styrafoam ink side down, printed to create a collaborative art work. This visually recorded the young peoples engagement in the safeguarding conference and demonstrates the power of using creativity as a tool for learning.

Styrafoam printing is also a great activity to introduce young people to printmaking and build skills towards lino and woodblock printing.
